Violinist Cathy French has distinguished herself as one of
the most outstanding musicians of her generation. Presently
a member of the Boston Symphony Orchestra (which she joined
in 1994), Cathy has been an active participant in music festivals
including Meadowmount, Banff and Marlboro. She was 1st prize
winner of the CBC Radio competition, as well as the winner
of many Canada Council Grants. She is frequently heard on
both CBC and NPR radio, and performs regularly in chamber
ensembles in the Boston area. Ms. French is in much demand
in Canada and has perfomed as soloist with the Winnipeg and
Edmonton Symphonies as well as the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra.
Born in Victoria, B.C., Cathy began serious study with Lise
Elson at Mount Royal College in Calgary. She continued her
studies with Miriam Fried at Indiana University and went on
to receive a Masters of Music from Juilliard where she worked
with Joel Smirnoff of the Juilliard Quartet.
