Joshua Peters began his violin studies at the age of four with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra’s concertmaster Gwen Hoebig. He currently studies with both Gwen Hoebig and associate concertmaster Karl Stobbe. Joshua has won numerous awards and trophies. At the 2009 Winnipeg Music Festival, Joshua won the Victor Feldbrill Trophy for the best string performance, the Winnipeg Bach Festival Trophy for the best performance of a work by Bach and the Aikens Memorial Trophy for the best instrumental performance. In 2007, he represented the province of Manitoba at the National Music Festival in Moncton. He has performed as a soloist with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra on sixteen occasions and with the Winnipeg Youth Symphony Orchestra. He is also the concertmaster of the WYSO. Last summer, Joshua was a member of the winning group in the Morningside Music Bridge’s annual chamber music competition. Joshua will be attending McGill University in the fall, majoring in Violin Performance. He enjoys learning and listening to contemporary music, and occasionally ventures into the realm of composition, where he writes cadenzas and short avant-garde works.
