About this Artist​

Born into a musical family of 8 siblings from Nova Scotia, Jacob MacDonald graduated with a piano performance degree from Dalhousie University, receiving the University Medal in Music. After earning a Masters and Graduate Diploma in Cello Performance at the University of Ottawa studying with Paul Marleyn, Jacob completed a Masters degree in Chamber Music at the University of Michigan with Richard Aaron. He has had the opportunity to learn from many prominent cellists such as Steven Isserlis, Johannes Moser, Amit Peled, Andres Diaz, and Denise Djokic. Jacob is the principal cellist of the Waco Symphony Orchestra and has held section cello positions in the symphonies of Lansing, Windsor, and Adrian. Further orchestral experience includes performances with the National Arts Centre Orchestra, Detroit Opera, Winnipeg Symphony, and serving as both principal cellist and soloist at many university orchestra concerts. Recent engagements include performances at the Festival of the Sound and the Prince Edward County Music Festival. He maintains a busy teaching studio, and began a DMA at Texas Christian University this fall. Jacob plays on a 2003 Clement & Weise cello and a Bernard Walke bow.
