About this Artist
Canadian cellist Lexie Jana Krakowski has always been drawn to the art of performance and storytelling. Growing up in Victoria, BC, she immersed herself in creative pursuits—organizing plays, dances, and imaginative performances, from make-believe restaurants and circuses to talent shows and musical theatre. This early passion for sharing stories naturally evolved into a love for music, leading her to the Glenn Gould School, where she is now in her fourth year of undergraduate studies in Cello Performance. As a cellist, Lexie has earned numerous accolades, including being named to CBC’s “Classical 30 Under 30” and winning both First Prize and the Grand Award at the National Music Festival of Canada. In 2023, she had the honor of performing Dvořák’s Cello Concerto with Symphony New Brunswick, captivating audiences in Saint John, Fredericton, and Moncton. More recently, she toured as co-principal cellist with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada and participated as an artist at the 2024 Banff International String Quartet Festival. Her 2025 season comprises performing Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No. 1 with the Oakville Chamber Orchestra, and collaborating with the Grammy nominated ARC Ensemble, among other projects. From coast to coast, Lexie has been praised for her expressive performances, with her sound described as “youthfully vibrant, yet possessing the quality of an old soul.” Her musical reach extends beyond traditional concert halls to community spaces such as homes, assisted living centers, hospitals, and schools, where she strives to share the joy of music. She firmly believes that music’s greatest purpose is to bring joy—and that joy is meant to be shared. Lexie is deeply grateful for the support of the Patrick and Barbara Keenan Foundation, the Temerty Foundation, the BC Arts Council, the RBC Emerging Artist Program, and the Gail O’Riordan Climate and the Arts Legacy Fund in helping further her career.
