Meet the Artist - Stéphane Lemelin

We invite you to get in the mood for tonight's performance with a conversation with our host, CBC's Andrea Ratuski, and acclaimed pianist Stéphane Lemelin. Well known to audiences throughout Canada and regularly on tour in the United States, Europe and Asia, we'll be catching up with Stéphane as this is his last concert of the season.

Featuring: Axel Strauss (violin); Paul Marleyn (cello); James Campbell (clarinet); Stephane Lemelin (piano); David Jalbert (piano); Jim Hiscott (composer)

Miniature to Monumental

Schubert - Impromptu, Opus 142 no. 1

Jim Hiscott – Midnight Strut, 2020, for solo clarinet

Paul Juon - 4 Miniatures for clarinet, cello and piano

Tchaikovsky – Piano Trio

Come with us to Ottawa for a special night featuring the debut of a work by Canadian composer Jim Hiscott. Initially commissioned in 1978 by Don MacMillan (grandson of Sir Ernest) with a grant from the Ontario Arts Council, Hiscott and clarinetist James Campbell have been diligently adapting Midnight Strut, an alto-saxophone arrangement, for clarinet. Hiscott dedicated the work to Campbell, and tonight we'll hear Campbell himself perform it. With a program also featuring works by festival favourites Schubert, Juon and Tchaikovsky – tonight's concert promises to be nothing less than monumental.
